The situation in Namibia, using Okombahe as an example
The town of Okombahe is located in Damaraland (northwest of Windhoek) on the edge of the Namib Desert.
following Main problems exist there:
• Because the distances are long, many children have to be accommodated in student dormitories.
• Unemployment is high (over 50%); alcoholism and absent fathers have a negative impact on family life.
Water, electricity and telecommunications are available, but only against prior payment.
• The HIV infection rate (AIDS) is very high – therefore many orphans live on the streets or with their grandparents.
