The situation in Namibia using the example of Okombahe
The town of Okombahe is located in Damaraland (north-west of Windhoek) on the edge of the Namib Desert.
The following Main problems exist there:
• Because the distances are long, many children have to be accommodated in student dormitories.
• Unemployment is high (over 50%); alcoholism and absent fathers have a negative impact on family life.
• Water, electricity and telecommunications are available, but only against prior payment.
• The HIV infection rate (AIDS) is very high – that is why many orphans live on the streets or with their grandparents.
